Mohamed Bourouissa wins the Deutsche Börse prize

Awarded annually by a panel of photography experts, the Deutsche Börse Prize is considered one of the most prestigious prizes in the world of photography.

Mohamed Bourouissa won this year's award with his series Périphérique. Drawing on the hierarchy of pictorial genres, the artist uses his friends and acquaintances to address the relationship between the system and marginalised communities. From history painting to landscape to genre scenes, Mohamed Bourouissa combines art history and street culture to give another place to the underdogs of contemporary society.
